Orangeville, Ont. (November 14, 2024) — The Ontario government is investing in Headwaters Health Care Centre’s emergency and diagnostic imaging departments by renovating and expanding them. These departments will be more accessible and connect more people to the care they need, where and when they need it.
The hospital was originally built to accommodate 23,000 annual visits but the
emergency department is now seeing over 36,000 annual visits.
This investment will allow Headwaters to make major strides in the emergency department with improving patient flow, decreasing wait times, optimizing the existing physical space and enhancing patient and family experience.
The current emergency and diagnostic imagining departments at Headwaters will be remodeled to increase patient capacity, ensure the hospital is better equipped to deliver state-of-the-art care for patients, their families, now and in the future. The hospital’s laboratory will be relocated from the main floor to the lower level to create additional space for the expansion.
Headwaters and the Ministry of Health will be working together to complete early planning and design for this project. Once future planning is complete, a construction schedule will be confirmed, and the project is tendered and awarded.

“Headwaters’ Emergency Department now sees daily and annual volumes that put extreme pressure on our team given the outdated design, flow and space allotment within the current footprint. Our team routinely looks at creative options to support the high volumes and efficiency in a tight space. This announcement is music to our ears. Thank you, Honourable Minister Jones, for your investment in Headwaters. It will improve emergency patient flow and safety and help manage current volumes and the significant growth that is expected.”
